The joy of life comes from giving. When I am freed from my flaws so that I can serve more freely, humility can grow within me. I can surrender my shortcomings to a loving God so that He can remove them from me. The essence of the Seventh Step is humility, and there is no better way to seek humility than by giving all of me—both the good and the bad in me—to God so that He can remove the bad from me and restore the good to me.
